The Peer Review Power Hour - Review Like an Expert for J ATE
Peer reviewers play a critical role in maintaining the quality of scientific publications. They read scientific articles, identify strengths and weaknesses, and provide feedback to the authors. They also make recommendations on whether an article should be published or not and whether additional work needs to be done to make an article worthy of publication. In this session, we will discuss the publication process and the role of peer-reviewers. We will also carry out a short training session where participants will read articles and evaluate the work based on a provided rubric.

Customizing NITIC Job Skills Lists for Your BILT Voting Form
The cornerstone of any successful Business and Industry Leadership Team (BILT) is an annual employer prioritization vote of entry-level job skills. The actionable, numbers-based outcome of that vote helps faculty better align curriculum with employer needs. This session will explain the value of this process and demonstrate in detail how a list of knowledge items and skills, such as those available on the National IT Innovation Center’s (NITIC) website, can be easily customized into an online Google form to collect employer votes. Attendees will be able to use this process with their own employers.

Self-Assessments – Identifying Strengths and Weaknesses in Discipline
How can a student evaluate what they know or don’t know about a subject or discipline? How can educators evaluate what students have learned in their courses? One way is to create a self-assessment tool that has them rank their level of knowledge about important competencies needed in the discipline. See of demo of the GeoTech Center's online self-assessment tool that is based on 200 competencies identified as important for individuals interested in geospatial technology. This tool and process can be adapted to any other discipline by working with industry partners to identify needed skills.

How Quantum Physics Helps Us Detect Objects in the Darkness
Is it possible to detect something without ever touching it—not even with a single particle of light? While that might sound impossible, quantum physics says otherwise. In this session, we will explore the concept of interaction-free measurement, where information can be gathered without direct contact. Through a simple experiment using mirrors and laser light, we will demonstrate how observing a system can change what happens. This surprising behavior challenges our everyday understanding of how the world works, and it forms the basis for many of today’s emerging quantum technologies. These technologies are no longer just theoretical—they are beginning to shape the future of secure communication, advanced computing, and national security. As the field expands, it is also opening up exciting career paths for students and professionals across science, engineering, and beyond. Speaker(s): Moamer Hasanovic

Concrete 3D Printing and Virtual Reality: Discovering the Convergence
Concrete 3D Printing (C3DP) is beginning to be adopted across the nation for resilient, affordable housing and infrastructure. However, applying this technology correctly requires new techniques for design, visualization, and planning. Virtual Reality (VR) is the perfect partner application. SCC designed and built Kentucky’s first concrete 3D printed house and will demonstrate how we combined VR with C3DP for this historic milestone. Participants will be given an explanation of VR modeling, space planning, and partnership marketing along with how to apply C3DP materials, skills, and design.

Making Virtual Reality Worth the Effort: WebGL & Finding a Sweet Spot
Although virtual reality (VR) is a very powerful educational tool, integrating it into the classroom is not easy. Maintaining hardware, managing accounts, addressing security issues, software updates, and other requirements often mean that the “juice is not worth the squeeze” for modern day educators. This session will open up the conversation around making VR easier to integrate into an instructor’s existing curriculum and workflow. Topics such as “one-click” WebGL based VR apps, easy to grade VR assignments, and the optimum ratio of VR-to-conventional coursework format will be shared.
